Scientist Meeting
Date: February 18, 2022 5:30pm EST (Zoom)
Attendance
- Christian Clemmons
- Kevin Cornell
- Audrey Schmitt
- Foenix Szot
- Marie Zgurich
Agenda
- Review our design changes with Leo & Meara
- Supply & Demand nodes are configured by the application, and thus cannot be changed. Users are only able to place and configure distribution nodes.
- Review Pastel’s comments during Design Review
- Eliminating “simulation” portion (Have the user configure distribution nodes, click a button, and then have factors like cost, environmental impact, immediately calculated and returned to the user) (This would require a fixed time length)
- Specify export data (What does Leo & Meara want specifically from the ability to export data from the application?)
- Discuss Tutorial Screen (What do Leo & Meara want the user to learn?)
- Should the application explain to the user what a supply chain is, or are we presuming they already have this knowledge?
- Discuss alternatives to copper (we are thinking lumber)
Meeting Notes
- Leo is okay if we end up programming in Unity
- Meara working on figuring out calculation for transportation methods
- On Design Changes:
- Transport methods: trains and trucks are definite
- Time Units would be a day to day basis (or a week)
- Geographic area would just be the Upper Peninsula
- Otherwise they didn’t say anything new on our design changes
- Eliminating ‘Simulation’ Portion:
- It is fine if simulation is just an application and not a web application
- Data: Every time simulation is saved, store in a database for user or send information to Leo in an email
- At least make it so they can just save a ‘file’ of the game
- Could get ‘data’ from teachers that way
- Discussing Tutorial Screen:
- Give characteristics of lumber, how used, harvested, or produced (stages for it, also possibly including budget and other calculations?)
- When first going into the program, have a little bit of information on lumber and supply chain (on title screen, or as button on title screen)
- Then once in map-view (in simulation) there are more details on specific nodes (breaking down characteristics and elements for more specific information about it), aka what appears when clicking on the informational buttons
- So information is supplemental, but more specifically educational in lumber process since that is our focus
- Lumber could be an easier alternative (takes less processing than copper)
- Leo is okay with it being an application only (export as executable)
