April 26, 2009
- Term project is due on May 1, 2009
at 5pm in my mailbox.
- Since you have no chance to resubmit,
you have to be extremely careful and make sure your programs
will run properly.
- You should burn a CD that contains all required components and
mark the operating system used to run your project.
Note that none of the Mac operating systems is supported,
and, as a result, you should submit your system in Linux or
Windows XP format.
If you wish to use Windows Vista, make sure your system can run
on Windows XP because we do not have Vista systems.
The following lists a possible directory structure:
- bin:
This directory contains all of your executables.
All needed DLL's must also be here.
Keep in mind that my test systems are very clean, and, hence, do not
assume I have an environment like yours.
- sources:
This directory contains your source programs with all needed
mechanisms to recompile your programs.
- images:
This directory contains all images and screenshots produced by your
program.
If you submit movies, male sure I can play it with commonly used
software (e.g., Quick Time).
Otherwise, include a player in this directory.
- doc:
This directory contains all needed documents, the papers you read
included. In particular, the following three will be graded:
- README:
This is a text file and contains the purpose of your
submission.
Make sure your name, e-mail address, a simple description
of your work will be included.
Also make sure line length should be restricted to no
more than 80 characters.
- GUIDE:
This is a PDF file and contains a simple user guide of
your project executable.
- REPORT:
This is your term project report and should be a PDF file.
Here, you should provide the details of your project.
In particular, I want to see the following sections:
(1) project description,
(2) motivation,
(3) review of this work and the papers you read,
(4) explain in detail what your project is all about,
(5) algorithms and implementation,
(6) project results (should use images, examples,
diagrams, etc extensively),
(7) a discussion of what you have achieved in this
project and a discussion of "failures",
(8) possible improvements if you have a chance
to continue,
and
(9) your conclusions.
Input:
This directory contains all input files (e.g.,
input meshes, images, etc).
Make sure you have a catalog (text) file
CAT.
Each entry in this text file should start with a filename
followed by a simple description and purpose of
this file.
If you do not have any extra files, make directory empty.
However, most of you should have some input files for
testing your project.
Other:
This directory contains other information used and referred to
in your report.
But, please keep a catalog of this directory in a text file
CAT.
Each entry in this text file should start with a filename
followed by a simple description and purpose of
this file.
If you do not have any extra files, make directory empty.

- Reading Listing for Week 8
is online.
- A few notes for submitting Exercise #2:
- Always use text file for
README and
PDF file for
GUIDE.
Also make sure line length in any text file no longer than
80 characters.
- Write readable and meaningful
README
and
GUIDE.
Some of you submitted these files with minimal information
(e.g., program names, etc) without
explaining how you did your work.
I consider this unacceptable,
and will deduct a significant number of points in all
subsequent exercise and project.
Simply put: Explain how you achieve the
goals/objectives of certain effects, etc.
Don't just show a number of images and ask me to interpret
your intention.
- For exercise #2, you should include
ALL in a separate directory
and meaningful name in JPEG format.
You should also provide a detailed
GUIDE
in which you should tell me how you get the job done,
and provide a step-by-step analysis of the convergence of
your rendering and intermediate images.
You should also carefully present and analysis the final results
in detail.
- Without following the above guidelines,
you risk a low or very low grade for this exercise.

- Grading process of your program #1 was delayed significantly as
I was sick in the latter half of last week.
Things should get back to normal early this week and some of you will
start receiving my grading reports and/or questions.
Sorry for this unexpected delay.
-
Start thinking your term project seriously.
Otherwise, I will assign one to you, which may not be the topic you wish
to do.
