Workstations

LanguageLab

Fisher 234 contains 20 SunBlade 100 workstations. Each workstation runs at 333MHz and has 256 megabytes of memory. They are all named after programming languages, but also have aliases that are simpler to remember. Their names (aliases) are: These machines may also be accessed from the MTU network. Simply append ".csl" to the name to get the network name (e.g., fortran.csl, or name.csl). Please be courteous if you do log in from the network and there is someone logged in from the console - either find another workstation where no one is logged in from the console, or don't run anything that would slow the workstation down much.

SciFiLab

Fisher 233 contains 20 Pentium 2.66GHz workstations with 512 megabytes of memory each, running RedHat Linux. They are all named after famous science fiction authors, but also have aliases that are simpler to remember. Their names (aliases) are: These machines may also be accessed from the MTU network. Simply append ".csl" to the name to get the network name (e.g., clarke.csl, or name.csl). Please be courteous if you do log in from the network and there is someone logged in from the console - either find another workstation where no one is logged in from the console, or don't run anything that would slow the workstation down much.

PizzaLab

Fisher 229 contains 20 Pentium III-750MHz workstations with 256 megabytes of memory each, running RedHat Linux. They are all named after pizza toppings, but also have aliases that are simpler to remember. Their names (aliases) are: These machines may also be accessed from the MTU network. Simply append ".csl" to the name to get the network name (e.g., bacon.csl, or cslab0.csl). Please be courteous if you do log in from the network and there is someone logged in from the console - either find another workstation where no one is logged in from the console, or don't run anything that would slow the workstation down much.

Instructional Computing Unit (ICU)

Fisher 232 contains 20 Pentium 2.2GHz workstations with 256 megabytes of memory each, running RedHat Linux, named icu1-icu20. These machines may also be accessed from the MTU network. Simply append ".csl" to the name to get the network name (e.g., icu1.csl). Please be courteous if you do log in from the network and there is someone logged in from the console - either find another workstation where no one is logged in from the console, or don't run anything that would slow the workstation down much. Do not log into them between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.

Printers

The LanguageLab, SciFiLab and PizzaLab have relatively high speed black and white laser printers. The one in the Languagelab (Fisher 234) is called laser234. The one in the SciFiLab (Fisher 233) is called laser233. The one in the PizzaLab (Fisher 229) is called laser229.
